A method of determining whether an apparatus having a movable component meets predetermined movement characteristics, the method comprising the steps of: establishing a predetermined movement signature for said movable component; moving said movable component through a distance; measuring the movement signature of the movable component; establishing whether the measured movement signature matches the required predetermined movement signature to within acceptable limits. The methods is particularly intended to be applied to the field of vehicle door latch mechanisms to establish whether or not the latch mechanism functions as desired, but can be applied to other mechanisms.

Procédé permettant de déterminer si un dispositif comportant un élément mobile satisfait à des caractéristiques de mouvement prédéterminées. Le procédé comprend les étapes suivantes: on établit une signature de mouvement prédéterminée pour ledit élément mobile; on déplace ledit élément mobile sur une certaine distance; on mesure la signature de mouvement dudit élément mobile; et on détermine si la signature de mouvement mesurée correspond, dans des limites acceptables, à la signature de mouvement prédéterminée désirée. Le procédé peut notamment être appliqué au domaine des mécanismes de verrouillage de portières de véhicule, où il permet de déterminer si ledit mécanisme fonctionne de la manière désirée, mais il peut aussi être appliqué à d'autres mécanismes.
