Abstract

A propellant burning system and method useful in a rocket motor or projectile firing device burns a continuous main propellant grain (122) of relatively soft propellant material selected from uncatalyzed or partially catalyzed propellants. A separating device (112) divides the propellant grain into a large number of fragments of high-surface area during the burn and an activation mechanism (120, 124, 126) for causing said separating device to operate on the main propellant grain and to ignite and control the burning thereof.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de combustion d'agent de propulsion, utile dans une fusée-moteur ou dans un dispositif de mise à feu de projectile, permettant de brûler un bloc de poudre principal (122) en continu d'un matériau combustible relativement doux sélectionné à partir de combustibles partiellement catalysés ou non catalysés. Un dispositif de séparation (112) sépare le bloc de poudre en un grand nombre de fragments d'aire spécifique élevée pendant la combustion, et un mécanisme d'activation (120, 124, 126) amène le mécanisme de séparation à agir sur le bloc de poudre principal, et à mettre à feu et à commander la combustion dudit agent de propulsion.
