The subject invention provides a process for preparing an olefin polymerization catalyst wherein a calcined and passivated silica support (support precursor) is sequentially contacted with a first solution of a metal complex or of a cocatalyst, and thereafter with a second solution of the other of the metal complex or the cocatalyst, wherein the second solution is provided in an amount such that 100 percent of the pore volume of the support precursor is not exceeded. Optionally, the compatible solvent of the first and/or second solutions is removed. The subject invention further provides a process for polymerizing one or more $g(a)-olefins in the presence of the olefin polymerization catalyst prepared by the process of the invention.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un catalyseur de polymérisation oléfinique, ce procédé consistant tout d'abord à mettre en présence un support de silice calciné et passivé (précurseur de support) et une première solution d'un complexe métallique ou d'un co-catalyseur, et ce à plusieurs reprises. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à mettre en présence ce support et une seconde solution du complexe métallique ou du co-catalyseur, selon que l'un ou l'autre a été utilisé dans l'étape précédente, cette seconde solution étant présente dans une quantité permettant de ne pas dépasser 100 pour cent du volume des pores du précurseur de support. De plus, ce procédé peut éventuellement consister à éliminer le solvant compatible de la première et/ou de la seconde solution. La présente invention concerne également un procédé de polymérisation d'une ou plusieurs alpha-oléfines en présence d'un catalyseur de polymérisation oléfinique, préparé selon le procédé susmentionné.
