A process for activating a purified polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence which is identical or substantially identical with the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1, characterized by bringing the polypeptide into contact with copper ion, calcium ion or magnesium ion or a substance capable of supplying copper ion, a substance capable of supplying calcium ion or a substance capable of supplying magnesium ion, etc. The activation method or production method makes it possible to economically produce activated MPIF-1$g(D)23 in a large amount which protects bone marrow stem cells from chemotherapeutics for cancer and exerts an effect of quickly recovering a decrease in leukocytes serving as the limiting factor in the administration of anticancer agents.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'activation d'un polypeptide purifié contenant une séquence d'acides aminés qui est identique ou sensiblement identique à la séquence d'acides aminés représentée par SEQ ID NO :1. Ce procédé se caractérise en ce qu'il consiste à placer le polypeptide en contact avec l'ion de cuivre, l'ion de calcium ou l'ion de magnésium ou une substance permettant de fournir l'ion de cuivre, une substance permettant de fournir l'ion de calcium ou encore une substance permettant de fournir l'ion de magnésium, etc. Ce procédé d'activation ou de production permet de produire du MPIF-1$g(D)23 en grande quantité. Ce produit protège les cellules souches de la moelle osseuse contre la chimiothérapie appliquée en cas de cancer. En outre, il exerce un effet permettant de récupérer rapidement en cas de baisse de leucocytes constituant le facteur limitant lors de l'administration d'agents anticancéreux.
