An improved method for producing an aromatic carbonate by reacting an aromatic hydroxy compound, carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst system comprising at least one of palladium or a palladium compound; at least one lead compound; at least one halide source; and at least one desiccant, wherein the ratio of equivalents of lead co-catalyst relative to equivalents of palladium catalyst is optimized to increase reaction rate, as well as to allow production of aromatic carbonate in an economically feasible continuous process.

L'invention concerne un procédé amélioré de production d'un carbonate aromatique consistant à faire réagir un composé hydroxy aromatique, du monoxyde de carbone et de l'oxygène en la présence d'un système de catalyseur comprenant au moins du palladium ou un composé de palladium; au moins un composé de plomb; au moins une source d'halogénure; au moins un agent de dessiccation, leur apport d'équivalents de cocatalyseur au plomb par rapport aux équivalents de catalyseur au palladium étant optimisé afin d'augmenter la vitesse de réaction, de même que pour permettre la production de carbonate aromatique dans un processus continu à faisabilité économique.
