This process and apparatus use at least two chopper units (24). The fiber choppers may be laser beam choppers or existing standard chopper units. The process and apparatus for producing a fiber-reinforced molded composite comprises providing a moldable composition, a first fiber chopper providing chopped fibers (26) to the apparatus from a first direction, a second fiber chopper providing chopped fibers to the apparatus from a second direction, wherein the first direction is different from the second direction and molding the moldable composition and fibers in the apparatus under heat and pressure to form the molded composite. One industrial application for these choppers is compression molding of interior trim panels for automobile doors. The choppers spray chopped glass fiber strands (26) into a resin mixture(18). The glass and a polyol, isocyanate (-NCO) urethane resin mixture at the proper glass loading, distribution and pattern is fed to the mold (10).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil utilisant au moins deux unités de découpage. Les découpeurs de fibres peuvent être des découpeurs à faisceau laser ou des unités de découpage existantes standard. Ce procédé permettant de produire un composite moulé, renforcé par des fibres consiste à fournir une composition pouvant être moulée, à acheminer des fibres coupées par un premier découpeur vers l'appareil à partir d'un premier sens, puis à acheminer des fibres coupées par un second découpeur de fibres vers l'appareil à partir d'un second sens, le premier sens étant différent du second. Ce procédé consiste encore à mouler la composition moulable et les fibres dans l'appareil soumises à la chaleur et à la pression afin d'obtenir un composite moulé. Ces découpeurs trouvent une application industrielle dans le secteur du moulage par compression de panneaux de garniture intérieure pour les portières d'automobiles. Ces découpeurs vaporisent des brins de fibres de verre coupés dans un mélange résineux. Le verre et un mélange de résine d'uréthanne isocyanate (-NCO) polyol sont alimentés vers le moule selon une charge, une répartition et un motif de verre corrects.
