A method and apparatus for creating density images of an object (2) through the 3-dimensional tracking of protons that have passed through the object. More specifically, the 3-dimensional tracking of the protons is accomplished by gathering and analyzing image of the ionization tracks of the protons in a closely packed stack of scintillating fibers (12).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de former des images d'un objet par contraste des densités, réalisées au moyen d'un traçage tridimensionnel des protons qui ont passé à travers l'objet. D'une manière plus spécifique, un traçage tridimensionnel des protons réalisé par le biais d'une collecte et d'une analyse des images des trajectoires d'ionisation des protons dans un bloc de fibres scintillantes étroitement empilées.
