A method and device for image processing free from a deficiency in entire vector in a gray image comparatively low in gray level. An N*N mask matrix is generated, based on a given gray level, for an N*N dither matrix used in an area gradation method which reproduces a gray image from binary image data based on multivalue image data; in a case of an N*N mask matrix comparatively low in gray level, rearrangements on column and row bases are effected (N*N-1) times to generate (N*N-1) pieces of N*N mask matrices which are then combined with the original N*N mask matrix to generate (N*N) * (N*N) mask matrices. Then, a binary gray image is generated, for a gray image comparatively low in gray level, from multivalue image data via the (N*N) * (N*N) mask matrices.

Procédé et dispositif de traitement d'image permettant d'obtenir une image exempte de défaut dans la totalité d'un vecteur d'une image en gris dont le niveau de gris est relativement bas. On génère une matrice de masque N*N, en fonction d'un niveau de gris donné, pour une matrice de tremblement N*N utilisée dans un procédé de gradation de zones reproduisant une image en gris à partir de données d'image binaires basées sur des données d'image à valeurs multiples ; dans le cas d'une matrice de masque N*N dont le niveau de gris est relativement bas, on effectue des redispositions sur des bases de colonnes et de rangées (N*N-1) fois afin de générer (N*N-1) unités de matrices de masque N*N qu'on combine ensuite à la matrice de masque N*N originale afin de générer des matrices de masque (N*N) * (N*N). On génère ensuite une image binaire en gris à partir d'une image en gris dont le niveau de gris est relativement bas, à partir de données d'image à valeurs multiples au moyen des matrices de masque (N*N) * (N*N).
