A method for enhancing the bit rate and/or margin at which quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) communication is performed includes the steps of varying a spectral allocation and constellation size with which communication is performed, so as to define a combination of spectral allocation and constellation size at which the bit rate and/or margin are enhanced. The spectral allocation can be varied by varying a stop frequency thereof, while maintaining a substantially constant start frequency, so as to mitigate undesirable high frequency content of the bandwidth. Alternatively, both start and stop frequencies may be varied.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de renforcer le débit binaire et/ou la marge à laquelle les communications à modulation d'amplitude en quadrature sont effectuées. Ledit procédé consiste notamment à modifier une affectation spectrale et dimension de constellation avec lesquelles les communications sont effectuées, de façon à définir une combinaison d'affectation spectrale et de dimension de constellation à laquelle le débit binaire et/ou la marge sont renforcés. On peut modifier l'affectation spectrale en modifiant une fréquence d'arrêt de celle-ci, tout en conservant une fréquence de démarrage sensiblement constante, de façon à atténuer le contenu haute fréquence non désirable de la largeur de bande. On peut aussi modifier les deux fréquences de démarrage et d'arrêt.
