The present invention is, in one embodiment, a method for adaptively equalizing an output of a digital communication channel; including steps of: generating an initial channel estimation (20); determining an initial set of metric states of a trellis, based on known symbols of a received input signal (10) comprising a sequence of symbols; updating the set of metric states according to the initial channel estimation (20) and the received signal; updating a set of paths for the metric states using a delayed tentative decision of a symbol of the received signal, to determine a set of survivor paths (40); and updating the channel estimation (60), based on the updated metrics, delayed tentative decision, and the received signal. This process enables reliable demodulation performance under conditions of severe channel impairments.

La présente invention est, dans un mode de réalisation, un procédé de correction adaptative d'une sortie d'un canal de communication numérique, et comprend les étapes consistant à produire une estimation initiale (20) d'un canal, à déterminer un ensemble initial d'états métriques d'un treillis, sur la base de symboles connus d'un signal d'entrée reçu (10) contenant une séquence de symboles, à actualiser l'ensemble d'états métriques selon l'estimation initiale (20) du canal et le signal reçu, à actualiser un ensemble de chemins pour les états métriques à l'aide d'une décision provisoire différée d'un symbole du signal reçu, afin de déterminer un ensemble de chemins survivants (40), et à actualiser l'estimation (60) de canaux sur la base de la métrique actualisée, de la décision provisoire différée et du signal reçu. Ce procédé permet d'avoir un fonctionnement de démodulation fiable dans des conditions de dégradations de canaux graves.
