An xDSL signal distribution system (10) is provided having a DSL translator unit (34) located between a central office XTU unit and a customer location for allowing equipment of multiple types of DSL signal format to be used within the same distribution system. The translator unit (34) is arranged to (38, 48) decode the payload of transmitted signals of one type of DSL format into base digital data. The translator unit (34) then performs line code (42, 52) conversion to a second desired type of DSL code format. In addition, the translator unit employs buffering (40, 50) to allow transmission of the converted xDSL signals at a transmission rate suitable for the type of coding.

L'invention concerne un système de répartition de signaux à ligne d'abonné numérique de types multiples xDSL (10), doté d'une unité de traduction DSL (34) située entre une unité d'émission (XTU) de central et un emplacement utilisateur, afin de permettre l'utilisation d'équipements de types multiples de format de signal DSL dans le même système de répartition. L'unité de traduction (34) est conçue pour (38, 48) décoder les données utiles relatives aux signaux émis dans un type de format DSL et les convertir en données numériques de base. L'unité de traduction (34) assure ensuite une conversion des codes en ligne (42, 52) en un deuxième type voulu de format de code DSL. Par ailleurs, l'unité de traduction utilise le tamponnage (40, 50) pour permettre l'émission des signaux xDSL à un débit d'émission approprié au type de codage.
