Compensation for phase nonalignment between a VCO frequency divider (309) and a reference frequency signal (303) in a fractional-N PLL is provided by a variable charge pump system (307). The phase comparator (305) has compensation logic (501) to turn on some of the charge pumps of the charge pump system early and the rest of the charge pumps later. This process effects an equivalent charge being turned on at the exact point in time for properly compensating for the fractional charge.

Dans un circuit à boucle de phase asservie N-fractionnaire, la compensation pour non alignement de phase entre un diviseur de fréquence à oscillateur à tension variable (309) et un signal de fréquence de référence (303) est assurée par un système de pompes à charge variable (307). Grâce à sa logique de compensation (501), le comparateur de phase (305) peut enclencher d'abord certaines des pompes à charge du système, puis les pompes restantes ultérieurement. Il en résulte qu'une charge équivalente est appliquée au moment exact pour compenser correctement la charge fractionnaire.
