Title
(EN) PRESSURIZED WATER RECOVERY SYSTEM FOR A FUEL CELL POWER PLANT
(FR) SYSTEME DE RECUPERATION D'EAU SOUS PRESSION POUR ENSEMBLE DE PRODUCTION D'ENERGIE A PILE A COMBUSTIBLE
Abstract
(EN)
The invention is a pressurized water recovery system (10) for a fuel cell power plant, including at least one fuel cell (12) having an electrolyte (14) between anode (16) and cathode (18) electrodes. A coolant loop (42) directs a coolant fluid from a reservoir (44) through a coolant passage (52) to the fuel cell and back, and also receives coolant fluid through condensed water lines (80) from condensing heat exchangers (58, 66). A process exhaust passage (38) directs an exhaust stream out of the fuel cell and into a condensing heat exchanger. Whenever the power plant is under coolant stress, a process exhaust valve (56) selectively directs a portion of the exhaust stream to a supercharger (62) that pressurizes this portion of the exhaust stream to a condensing heat exchanger (66). Because the exhaust stream within the heat exchanger is under pressure, an increased amount of water condenses out of the exhaust stream without a need to continuously pressurize any of the power plant components. The condensed water is directed to the coolant reservoir.
