Second-harmonic components in a range of 200-400 Hz of such instruments as a bass and a bass drum are extracted from input audio signals by using high-pass filter (32) with a cutoff frequency of 200 Hz and a cutoff characteristic of +12 dB/OCT and a low-pass filter (33) with a cutoff frequency of 400 Hz and a more abrupt cutoff characteristic than 24 dB/OCT. The extracted components are input to distortion means (34) having the nonlinear input characteristic asymmetrical with respect to zero point, and the means produces even harmonics with distortion. The output from the distortion means (34) is combined with the input audio signal by an adder (18) to produce clear base sounds.

Selon l'invention, des éléments de seconde harmonique, compris dans une plage de 200 à 400 Hz, d'instruments tels qu'une contrebasse ou une grosse caisse, sont extraits de signaux audio d'entrée au moyen d'un filtre passe-haut (32) présentant une fréquence de coupure de 200 Hz et une caractéristique de coupure de +12 dB/OCT, et d'un filtre passe-bas (33) présentant une fréquence de coupure de 400 Hz et une caractéristique de coupure plus abrupte que 24 dB/OCT. Les éléments extraits sont entrés dans un moyen de distortion (34) dont la caractéristique d'entrée non linéaire est asymétrique eu égard au point zéro, et ledit moyen produit des harmoniques paires présentant une distortion. La sortie obtenue avec le moyen de distortion (34) est combinée avec le signal audio d'entrée par un additionneur (18) pour produire des sons de base clairs.
