A process for producing a water-absorbing cross-linked polymer excellent in water absorption and biodegradability from an inexpensive maleic acid derivative; and a process for producing a biodegradable water-absorbing cross-linked polymer through simpler reaction steps. The processes for producing a water-absorbing resin comprising a water-absorbing cross-linked polymer are characterized by comprising: a step (1) in which a reaction system comprising (A) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of (a-1) maleic anhydride and ammonia, (a-2) a C4 dicarboxylic acid and ammonia, (a-3) a monoammonium salt of a C4 dicarboxylic acid and/or the diammonium salt of the acid, (a-4) a monoamide of a C4 dicarboxylic acid and/or the diamide of the acid, and (a-5) a C4 imide, (B) a cross-linking agent, and (C) an acid is heated at 100 to 350 °C to simultaneously conduct a polymerization reaction and a cross-linking reaction and thereby produce a cross-linked polymer; and a step (2) in which the cross-linked polymer produced in the step (1) is hydrolyzed to produce a water-absorbing cross-linked polymer.

Procédé servant à préparer un polymère réticulé présentant des caractéristiques excellentes d'absorption d'eau et de biodégradabilité, à partir d'un dérivé économique d'acide maléique ; procédé servant à préparer un polymère réticulé biodégradable absorbant l'eau par l'intermédiaire d'étapes réactionnelles simplifiées. Ces procédés de préparation de résine absorbant l'eau et contenant un polymère réticulé absorbant l'eau consistent à : (1) réchauffer à une température entre 100 et 350 °C un système réactionnel contenant (A) au moins un monomère sélectionné dans le groupe constitué par (a-1) un anhydride maléique et ammoniac, (a-2) un acide dicarboxylique C4 et ammoniac, (a-3) un sel de monoammonium d'un acide dicarboxylique C4, (a-4) un monoamide d'un acide dicarboxylique C4 et/ou le diamide de cet acide, et (a-5) un imide C4, (B) un agent de réticulation et (C) un acide, de manière à effectuer simultanément une réaction de polymérisation et une réaction de réticulation et, de ce fait, produire un polymère réticulé ; (2) hydrolyser, dans une deuxième étape, le polymère réticulé obtenu à l'étape (1) afin de produire un polymère réticulé absorbant l'eau.
