A continuous process for the manufacture of alkylated diphenyl compounds such as diphenyl ether and diphenyl sulfides by alkylating a diphenyl compound such as diphenyl ether with an olefinic alkylating agent by passing a continuous flow of the diphenyl compound and the olefin over a solid particulate catalyst which comprises a molecular sieve of the MCM-22 family. The process is flexible. By adjusting feed compositions, products of different compositions and wide range of properties are produced.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de fabrication en continu de composés diphénlyle alkylés tels que du diphényléther et des diphénylsulfures. Ledit procédé consiste en l'alkylation d'un composé diphényle tel qu'un diphényléther avec un agent d'alkylation oléfinique. Pour procéder à cette akylation, on fait passer un flux continu du composé diphényle et de l'oléfine sur un catalyseur particulaire solide qui comporte un tamis moléculaire de la famille MCM-22. Le procédé de fabrication de cette invention est souple. Il permet notamment d'ajuster les compositions d'alimentation et de produire de ce fait des produits de compositions différentes et présentant un large éventail de propriétés.
