Abstract

An occupant detection system (10) comprises an electric field sensor (100) in the seat bottom (42) of a vehicle seat (3) for discriminating objects on the seat (3), and a range/proximity sensor (200) for sensing the proximity of an occupant's torso relative to the seat back (46) of a vehicle seat (3). The electric field sensor (100) discriminates normally seated occupants (5) from other seating conditions, and disables a restraint actuator (39) unless a normally seated occupant (5) is present. The range/proximity sensor (200) disables the restraint actuator (39) if an occupant (5) has not been proximate to the seat back (46) for a period of time greater than a threshold.

Cette invention concerne un système de détection d'occupant de siège (10) comprenant un détecteur de champ électrique (100) implanté dans l'assise (42) d'un siège de véhicule (3) qui permet de distinguer les objets présents sur le siège (3), et un capteur de distance/proximité (200) qui détecte la distance entre le torse d'un occupant et le dossier (46) du siège (3). Le détecteur de champ électrique fait la distinction entre des occupants normalement assis (5) et d'autres positions assises, et neutralise l'actionneur de blocage (39) sauf en présence d'un occupant normalement assis (5). Le capteur de distance/proximité (200) neutralise l'actionneur de blocage (39) si l'occupant (5) ne se trouve pas à proximité du dossier de siège (46) pendant un laps de temps supérieur à une valeur de seuil.
