A method of manufacturing fluid tubing (12) such as fuel or brake tubing utilizes fluid tubing which includes a metal tube (14) with a longitudinal axis, a corrosion resistant metal coating (18) over the metal tube, a binder layer (20) over the metal coating and a plastic coating (22) over the binder layer. A water jet cutter (10) is positioned adjacent to the fluid tubing. The fluid tubing and/or the water jet cutter are moved in a feed direction (30) parallel to the longitudinal axis (26). The fluid tubing and/or the water jet cutter are rotated about the longitudinal axis (26). A water jet is jetted from the water jet cutter against the fluid tubing substantially tangentially to the metal tube and at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis (26), whereby the plastic coating and the binder layer are removed from the fluid tubing and the metal coating remains substantially intact on the metal tube.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de tuyaux gainés pour liquides (12), tels que tuyaux pour circuits de refroidissement ou de freinage. Ce tuyau à âme de métal (14) avec un axe longitudinal comprend un premier revêtement métallique (18) anti-corrosion, une couche de liaison (20) sur le premier revêtement métallique et une gaine de plastique (22) sur la couche de liaison. On positionne une machine à couper au jet d'eau (10) contre le tuyau, ou bien on fait avancer cette machine dans une direction (30) parallèle à l'axe longitudinal (26). Le tuyau et/ou la machine à découper au jet d'eau tournent autour de l'axe longitudinal (26). Un jet d'eau vient frapper le tube de façon sensiblement tangentielle et selon un angle aigu par rapport à l'axe longitudinal (26); cette opération a pour résultat de détacher la gaine de plastique et la couche intermédiaire du tuyau, pratiquement sans toucher au revêtement métallique du tuyau de métal.
