Abstract

Skin friction reduction on a surface moving relative to a fluid can be obtained by ejecting a polymer-water mixture/solution (9) into the boundary layer. The efficacy of the ejected polymer-water mixture/solution is closely related to polymer dissipation out of the boundary layer and conditioning (i.e., lengthening, unwinding or stretching) of the polymer molecules by liquid shear forces immediately before ejection. The invention is a method and apparatus for conditioning and ejecting a polymer-water mixture/solution (9) that improves drag reduction characteristics of the mixture/solution and maintains the mixture/solution in the boundary layer for as long as possible. By improving the drag-reduction characteristics of the polymer-water mixture/solution and by extending the time it remains in the near-wall region, the ejector can increase the performance and reduce the volume and storage requirements of a drag-reduction system. Although this invention was intended for polymer-water mixture/solution ejection, it can be used for ejection of any substance into a flowing fluid.

Il est possible de réduire les frottements superficiels d'une surface en mouvement par rapport à un fluide en injectant dans la couche limite un mélange/solution (9) de polymère et d'eau. L'efficacité de ladite solution est étroitement liée à l'évacuation du polymère de la couche limite et au conditionnement (par exemple allongement, déroulement et étirement) des molécules de polymère par des forces de cisaillement liquides, et ce, immédiatement avant l'injection. L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil de conditionnement du mélange/solution qui en améliore les caractéristiques de réduction de la traînée et le maintient à l'intérieur la couche limite aussi longtemps que possible. En améliorant les caractéristiques de la solution et l'allongement de son séjour dans la zone proche du profil, l'éjecteur accroit les performances et réduit le volume, et donc les besoins en espace de stockage, du système de réduction de traînée. Bien que l'invention ait trait originalement à l'injection de mélanges/solutions polymère-eau, elle peut s'utiliser pour l'injection de toute substance dans un écoulement.
