A low compression, resilient golf ball (10) having a center (12) and a cover (16), wherein at least a portion of the ball (10) is formed from the conversion reaction of an amount of polybutadiene, a free radical source, and a cis-to-trans catalyst including at least one inorganic sulfide at a sufficient temperature to form a polybutadiene reaction product which includes an amount of $i(trans)-polybutadiene greater than the amount of $i(trans)-polybutadiene present before the conversion reaction and a cis-to-trans catalyst including at least one inorganic sulfide. The reaction product preferably has a first dynamic stiffness measured at -50 °C that is less than about 130 percent of a second dynamic stiffness measured at 0°C. A multi-layer golf ball (20, 30) having a center (22, 32), at least one intermediate layer (24, 34, 36) disposed concentrically about the center (22, 32), a cover (26, 38), wherein at least a portion of at least one of the center (22, 32), intermediate layer, or both, are made from the reaction product. Also included are methods of forming such golf balls.

La présente invention concerne une balle de golf élastique, à faible compression, comportant un noyau et une enveloppe, dans laquelle au moins une partie est produite à partir de la réaction de conversion mettant en oeuvre une quantité de polybutadiène, une source de radicaux libres, et un catalyseur de conversion de cis en trans, à base d'au moins un sulfure inorganique, à une température suffisante afin de former un produit de réaction de polybutadiène qui comporte une teneur en $i(trans)-polybutadiène plus importante qu'avant la réaction de conversion. Le produit de réaction présente typiquement une rigidité dynamique qui, mesurée à 50 °C, est inférieure d'environ 130 pour-cent à une seconde rigidité dynamique mesurée à 0 °C. L'invention concerne aussi une balle de golf à couches multiples présentant un noyau, au moins une couche intermédiaire disposée de manière concentrique autour du noyau, et une enveloppe, dans laquelle au moins une portion d'un noyau, d'une couche intermédiaire ou des deux est fabriquée à partir du produit de réaction. Cette invention se rapporte aussi des procédés de formation de telles balles.
