A method for efficient removal of lead co-catalyst species from organic process streams arising from diaryl carbonate synthesis, by contacting the organic reaction mixtures with an aqueous acid, salt, or acid/salt solution, thereby extracting the treated mixture into an aqueous phase, or by treating the organic reaction mixtures with solid oxalic acid or oxalic acid salt, or an aqueous solution of oxalic acid or oxalic acid salt, thereby resulting in precipitation of the lead. The precipitated lead may then be calcined to provide a lead compound that is catalytically active in the carbonylation of phenol to yield diaryl carbonates. Use of these methods will substantially reduce both financial and environmental concerns for the preparation of diaryl carbonates.

L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à éliminer efficacement des espèces co-catalytiques de plomb des flux de traitement organiques issus de la synthèse des carbonates de diaryle, en mettant en contact les mélanges réactionnels organiques avec une solution acide aqueuse, salée, ou acide/salée, ce qui permet ainsi d'extraire le mélange traité dans une phase aqueuse; ou en traitant les mélanges réactionnels organiques avec un acide oxalique solide ou un sel d'acide oxalique, ou avec une solution aqueuse d'acide oxalique ou de sel d'acide oxalique, ce qui aboutit à la précipitation du plomb. Le plomb précipité peut alors être calciné pour générer un composé du plomb qui est actif sur le plan catalytique dans la carbonylation du phénol afin de produire des carbonates de diaryle. L'utilisation de ces procédés permet de diminuer nettement les problèmes d'ordre financier et écologique liés à la préparation des carbonates de diaryle.
