Abstract

An electrochemical cell according to the present invention includes a can having an open end; electrochemical materials including two electrodes provided inside the can; a seal provided in the open end of the can for preventing leakage of the electrochemical materials from the can; and a moisture barrier provided in the open end of the can between the seal and the vented outer cover for preventing ambient air from entering the can. Preferably, the ambient air barrier includes a metal inner cover having at least one aperture. The ambient air barrier may further include a plug material disposed in contact with the metal inner cover for releasably plugging the aperture in the metal inner cover. Alternatively, the ambient air barrier may include a layer of air-impervious material disposed on the outer surface of the seal in an area exposed to ambient air passing at least partially through the aperture in the inner cover.

L'invention concerne une pile électrochimique qui comprend une enveloppe ayant une extrémité ouverte; des matériaux électrochimiques constituant deux électrodes disposées à l'intérieur de l'enveloppe; un joint disposé à l'extrémité ouverte de l'enveloppe de façon à empêcher les fuites de matériaux électrochimiques à l'extérieur de l'enveloppe; et une barrière anti-humidité disposée à l'extrémité ouverte de l'enveloppe, entre le joint et le capuchon externe aéré, de façon à empêcher l'air ambiant d'entrer dans l'enveloppe. De préférence, la barrière contre l'air ambiant comprend un capuchon interne métallique présentant au moins un orifice, et elle peut comporter en outre un matériau bouchon disposé en contact avec le capuchon métallique de façon à boucher de manière libérable l'orifice dudit capuchon. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, elle peut comporter une couche de matériau imperméable à l'air, disposée à la surface externe du joint, dans une zone exposée à l'air ambiant qui traverse au moins partiellement l'orifice du capuchon interne.
