The present invention relates to a process for the polymerisation and copolymerisation of 1-olefins and to a catalyst to be used in said process wherein the catalyst comprises (1) a complex having formula (I) wherein M is Fe[II], Fe[III], Co[I], Co[II], Co[III], Mn[I], Mn[II], Mn[III], Mn[IV], Ru[II], Ru[III] or Ru[IV]; X represents an atom or group covalently or ionically bonded to the metal M; T is the oxidation state of the metal; b is the valency of the atom or group X; and R1 to R7 are each independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl, substituted heterohydrocarbyl or SiR'3 where each R' is independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl, substituted heterohydrocarbyl; and when any two or more of R1 to R7 are hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl or substituted heterohydrocarbyl, said two or more can be linked to form one or more cyclic substituents; (2) an activator which is an alkylalumoxane; and (3) a support material, wherein the atomic ratio of aluminium in the alkylalumoxane (2) to transition metal M in (1) is from 6:1 to 25:1.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de polymérisation et de copolymérisation de 1-oléfines, et un catalyseur pouvant être mis en oeuvre dans ce procédé. Ce catalyseur comprend: 1) un complexe de la formule (I); 2) un activateur alkylalumoxane; et 3) une matière de support catalytique dans laquelle le rapport atomique de l'aluminium présent dans l'alkylalumoxane (2) au métal de transition M présent dans le complexe (1) est de 6:1 à 25:1. Dans ladite formule (I), M est Fe[II], Fe[III], Co[I], Co[II], Co[III], Mn[I], Mn[II], Mn[III], Mn[IV], Ru[II], Ru[III] or Ru[IV]; X est un atome ou un groupe lié par covalence ou migration des ions au métal M; T représente l'état d'oxydation du métal; b est la valence de l'atome ou du groupe X; et R1 à R7 sont sélectionnés, indépendamment les uns des autres, dans le groupe constitué par hydrogène, halogène, hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyl substitué, hétérohydrocarbyl, hétérohydrocarbyl substitué, ou SiR'3 (chaque R' étant sélectionné indépendamment dans le groupe constitué par hydrogène, halogène, hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyl substitué, hétérohydrocarbyl, hétérohydrocarbyl substitué), et lorsque deux ou plusieurs R1 à R7 sont hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyl substitué, hétérohydrocarbyl ou hétérohydrocarbyl substitué, lesdits deux ou plusieurs R1 à R7 peuvent être liés pour former un ou plusieurs substituants.
