A gas identification system comprises a passage (7), an ultrasonic instrument (8) including a pair of ultrasonic oscillators (17, 18) and arranged in the passage (7), a unit (10) for calculating the speed of sound in a gas flowing through the passage (7) based on the signal from the ultrasonic instrument (8), a section (12) for storing a predetermined speed of sound, and a comparator (11) for comparing the speed of sound calculated by the section (10) with the speed of sound stored in the section (12). The kind of gas that flows through the passage (7) is specified according to the results of comparison by the comparator (11).

Un mystème d'identification de gaz comporte un passage (7), un instrument à ultrasons (8) comportant une paire d'oscillateurs (17, 18) et placé dans le passage (7), une unité (10) pour calculer la vitesse du son dans un gaz s'écoulant dans le passage /(7), en fonction du signal provenant de l'instrument à ultrasons (8), une unité (12) pour mémoriser une vitesse prédéterminée du son et un comparateur (11) pour comparer la vitesse du son calculée par l'unité (10) à la vitesse du son mémorisée dans l'unité (12). Le type de gaz qui s'écoule dans le passage (7) est spécifié en fonction des résultats de la comparaison effectuée par le comparateur (11).
