The present invention is directed to a protein isolated from $i(S. aureus) that is the target of RAP, called TRAP, which is characterized by a molecular weight of about 21 KDa, is capable of being phosphorylated by RAP, and comprises an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2. In addition, the present invention is directed towards an antibody immunoreactive with TRAP that is preferably a monoclonal antibody or a humanized antibody but may be a polyclonal antibody. The invention provides a method of treating $i(S. aureus) infection by administering such a TRAP-inhibiting agent. The invention also features methods for identifying compounds that inhibit TRAP activity and/or inhibit TRAP-RAP interaction.

La présente invention concerne une protéine isolée de $i(S. aureus) qui est la cible de RAP (protéine activant RNAII). Cette protéine, dite TRAP, qui se caractérisée par un poids moléculaire d'environ 21 Kda, peut être phosphorilée par RAP et comprend une séquence d'acides aminés de SEQ ID NO : 2. De plus, la présente invention porte sur un anticorps, immunoréactif avec TRAP, qui est de préférence un anticorps monoclonal ou un anticorps humanisé, mais qui peut être -olyclonal. L'invention concerne une méthode de traitement de l'infection $i(S.aureus) par administration d'un tel agent inhibiteur de TRAP. L'invention concerne également des procédés permettant d'identifier des composés qui inhibent l'activité TRAP et/ou l'interaction TRAP-RAP.
