A molded polymeric container (10) that is shaped to exhibit superior characteristics of light weighting, stability against toppling and resistance to stress cracking includes a conventional cylindrical body (12) having a longitudinal axis (13) and a circumferencial sidewall and a novel bottom portion (16). The bottom portion (16) includes a central pushup area (22) of uniformity that is substantially uniform within a spatial rotation about the longitudinal axis. The area of uniformity has a radius Rg. The bottom (16) also includes a plurality of support feet that surround and protrude downwardly from the pushup area. Each of the support feet (18) have a bottom support surface with an inner point of contact (26) and an outer point of contact (28). The outer points of contact (28) together define an outer contact radius Roc. The bottom portion (16) as a whole has a radius of maximum width Rbase. A plurality of ribs are positioned in valleys (10) between the support feet (18). Each of these ribs is positioned between and helps define two of the support feet (18). At least one of the ribs has a localized radius of curvate Rc that intersects an arc connecting inner points of contact of two adjacent support feet (18). Advantageously, the radius of uniformity is within the range of about 16 % to about 26 % of Roc; and Rc is within the range of about 70 % to about 110 % of Rbase.

L'invention concerne un récipient (10) en polymère moulé conçu de manière à présenter des caractéristiques élevées en termes de légèreté de poids, de stabilité au basculement et de résistance à la fissuration. Ledit récipient comprend un corps (12) cylindrique courant à axe longitudinal (13), une paroi latérale circonférencielle et un nouveau fond (16). Ce dernier (16) comprend une région de renfoncement centrale (22) dont l'uniformité est sensiblement homogène dans le cadre d'une rotation spatiale autour de l'axe longitudinal. Cette zone d'uniformité a un rayon Rg. Le fond (16) comporte également plusieurs pieds d'appui entourant et sortant vers le bas de la région de renfoncement. Chaque pied d'appui (18) présente une surface d'appui inférieure avec un point de contact intérieur (26) et un point de contact extérieur (28). Les points de contact extérieurs (28) définissent conjointement un rayon de contact extérieur Roc. Le fond (16) dans son ensemble a un rayon de largeur maximale Rbase. Plusieurs rainures sont placées dans des creux (10) entre les pieds d'appui (18). Chaque rainure, placée entre les pieds d'appui, permet de définir deux de ces pieds (18). Au moins une rainure a un rayon localisé courbe Rc qui coupe un arc reliant les points de contact intérieurs de deux pieds d'appui adjacents (18). Il est avantageux que le rayon d'uniformité se situe entre environ 16 et environ 26 % de Roc et que Rc se situe entre environ 70 et environ 110 % de Rbase.
