Methods for sealing an interface surface of ceramic materials (42), such as zirconia, to an interface of metallic materials (40), such as titanium-containing materials, using a titanium-nickel brazes (46) are disclosed. Preferred ceramic include stabilized zirconia materials; preferred metallic include titanium-niobium alloys; and a preferred titanium-nickel braze material is a 50-50 titanium-nickel alloy. Braze materials comprising titanium, nickel, and niobium are used for joining ceramic materials to metallic materials lacking niobium. At least one of the interfaces is contacted by the titanium-nickel braze and sealing is accomplished under vacuum conditions at temperatures from 900 to 1200 °C during application of pressure to the joint. The methods are suitable in hermetically sealing applications in implantable medical devices, electrical connectors, electronic packages, sporting goods, structural components.

La présente invention concerne des procédés permettant de faire adhérer une interface de matières céramiques (42), telles que de la zircone, sur une interface de matière métallique (40), renfermant notamment du titane, au moyen de produits de brasure (46) au titane-nickel. Les céramiques préférées sont par exemple des matières à base de zircone; les matières métalliques préférées des alliages au titane-niobium. Comme produit de brasure, on préférera un alliage à 50/50 de titane et de nickel. Pour la liaison de matières céramiques et de matières métalliques sans niobium, on utilise des produits de brasure renfermant du titane, du nickel et du niobium. La brasure au titane-nickel vient en contact avec au moins l'une des interfaces, l'adhésion étant réalisée sous vide à des températures comprises entre 900 et 1200 °C avec application de pression sur le plan de liaison. Ces procédés conviennent pour des opérations de scellement sur des dispositifs médicaux implantables, des prises électriques, des ensembles électroniques, des articles de sport et des composants structurels.
