Abrasion resistant pipes comprise a wall formed from a filament wound fiberglass reinforced material and an elastomeric abrasion resistant material on the inside and/or outside surface of the pipe. The pipes are made using filament winding processes by coating a mandrel with the elastomeric material, then winding the resin impregnated filament therearound. Pipes made using the invention have improved toughness, temperature resistance, chemical resistance and abrasion resistance, when compared to conventional fiberglass reinforced pipes that have either no protective liner or have liners made from other elastomeric materials.

L'invention concerne des tuyaux résistants à l'abrasion qui comprennent une paroi structurelle, constituée d'un matériau renforcé à la fibre de verre produit par enroulement filamentaire, et un matériau résistant à l'abrasion élastomère, disposé à la surface interne ou externe dudit tuyau. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, la paroi structurelle est constituée d'une résine époxy renforcée à la fibre de verre produite par enroulement filamentaire, et le matériau résistant à l'abrasion d'un élastomère à base de polyurée. Les tuyaux résistants à l'abrasion de l'invention sont fabriqués par des techniques d'enroulement filamentaire existantes, qui consistent à recouvrir un mandrin avec le matériau résistant à l'abrasion élastomère, puis à enrouler le filament imprégné de résine sur ledit mandrin. Une liaison chimique forte se forme entre le matériau résistant à l'abrasion élastomère et la couche de résine renforcée à la fibre de verre adjacente quand le matériau résistant à l'abrasion est un élastomère à base de polyurée et la résine imprégnant les fibres de verre une résine époxy. L'opération d'enroulement filamentaire est lancée avant le durcissement complet de l'élastomère sous-jacent. La liaison solide entre le matériau résistant à l'abrasion durci et la surface adjacente de la paroi structurelle doit assurer que le revêtement ne se détache pas du tuyau, de façon à assurer une protection maximale contre l'usure abrasive. Les tuyaux préparés selon les principes de l'invention possèdent des propriétés améliorées de ténacité, ainsi que de résistance à la chaleur, aux produits chimiques et à l'abrasion, par rapport aux tuyaux renforcés à la fibre de verre classiques, qui soit ne possèdent pas de revêtement protecteur, soit comportent un revêtement constitué d'autres matériaux élastomères.
