The invention relates to a method for producing fusion plants for use in obtaining plants suitable for cross-pollination, comprising of preparing protoplasts of a first parent plant and protoplasts of a second parent plant, fusing the first protoplasts with the second protoplasts so as to obtain a fusion product, and regenerating fusion plants from the fusion product, wherein at least one of the two parent plants possesses one or more traits favourable for cross-pollination, at least one of which is expressed in the fusion plant. Such traits favourable for cross-pollination comprise for instance at least a flower size and/or flower contour attractive to insects. The method according to the invention can for instance be applied for lettuce. The produced fusion plants and seed thereof can be used in the production of plants suitable for cross-pollination, hybrid plants and seed.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de plantes de fusion, à utiliser dans la production de plantes convenant à la pollinisation croisée. Ledit procédé consiste à préparer des protoplastes d'une première plante-mère et des protoplastes d'une deuxième plante-mère, à fusionner les premiers protoplastes avec les deuxièmes protoplastes, de sorte qu'un produit de fusion soit produit, et à régénérer des plantes de fusion à partir du produit de fusion, au moins une des deux plantes-mères possédant un ou plusieurs traits favorisant la pollinisation croisée, dont au moins un est exprimé dans la plante de fusion. Lesdits traits favorisant la pollinisation croisée sont, par exemple, au moins la taille de la fleur et/ou une couleur de fleur attirant les insectes. Le procédé de l'invention peut être appliqué, entre autres, aux laitues. Les plantes de fusion produites et la semence de celles-ci peuvent être utilisées dans la production de plantes convenant à la pollinisation croisée, de plantes hybrides et de semence.
