(EN)A variable speed helicopter rotor system and method for operating such a system are provided which allow the helicopter rotor to be operated at an optimal angular velocity in revolutions per minute (RPM). This, in turn, minimizes the power required to turn the rotor and thereby resulting in helicopter performance efficiency improvements, reduction in noise, and improvements in rotor, helicopter transmission, and engine life. The system and method provide for an increase in helicopter endurance and a substantial improvement in helicopter performance during take-off, hover and maneuver.
(FR)L'invention concerne un rotor d'hélicoptère à vitesse variable et un procédé relatif à l'exploitation dudit rotor, permettant de faire fonctionner un hélicoptère à vitesse optimale en tours/minute, et réduisant ainsi au minimum la puissance requise pour la rotation du rotor. Les avantages sont les suivants : amélioration de l'efficacité, réduction du bruit, et améliorations de la durée de vie du rotor, de la transmission de l'hélicoptère et du moteur. Le rotor et le procédé considérés permettent d'augmenter l'autonomie, mais aussi d'améliorer sensiblement les performances au décollage, en vol stationnaire et aux fins de manoeuvre.
