Abstract
(EN) The invention is a method of retaining selenium in a glass containing selenium by including a manganese compound but excluding nitrates or nitrites routinely used in the industry to retain selenium. Particularly, a preferred embodiment involves manufacturing a grey soda-lime-silica glass composition including selenium as a colorant, the components of the grey soda-lime-silica glass have colorants consisting essentially of: greater than 0.9 to 1.9 wt.% total iron oxide as Fe2O3; 0.10 to 1.00 wt.% manganese compound as MnO2; 0.0010 to 0.0060 wt.% selenium as Se; 0.002 to 0.025 wt.% cobalt oxide as Co, and 0 to 1.0 wt.% titanium oxide as TiO2 which are combined and melted to make the glass composition. The glass composition has at 4.0 mm. thickness: 10 to 55 % light transmittance using Illuminant A, less than 25 % ultra violet transmittance, and less than 50 % infrared transmittance.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de fixer le sélénium dans un verre contenant du sélénium par l'adjonction d'un composé de manganèse, sans recourir aux nitrates ou nitrites habituellement utilisés dans l'industrie à cette fin. Dans un mode de réalisation en particulier, on produit une composition de verre gris à base de soude-chaux-silice comprenant du sélénium en tant que colorant. Les composants de verre gris à base de soude-chaux-silice comprennent des colorants qui sont principalement: un total de plus de 0,9 à 1,9 % en poids d'oxyde de fer sous forme de FeO3; 0,10 à 1,00 % en poids de composés de manganèse sous forme de MnO2; de 0,0010 à 0,0060 % en poids de sélénium sous forme de Se; de 0,002 à 0,025 % en poids de oxyde de cobalt sous forme de Co, et 0 à 1,0 % en poids, et de 0 à 1,0 % en poids d'oxyde de titane sous forme de TiO2 qui sont combinés et fondus pour produire la composition de verre.
