Abstract:
(EN) A method and apparatus are described for prolonging the usage life of an optical element (38) under the irradiation of an intensive laser beam (37). The method employs a continuous mechanical motion to enlarge the effective interaction area and the volume of the laser beam within the optical element. In an embodiment, the apparatus is used for harmonic generation of a laser beam within a BBO crystal. A motor (12) is used to drive the BBO crystal mounted on a pair of translation slides. The crystal is moved on a circular path spiraling within a predetermined area while its optical axis remains in the same orientation in relation to a laser beam. The phase matching angle of the BBO is maintained during the movement, and the usage life of the BBO crystal is increased by many orders of magnitude.
(FR) Le procédé et l'appareil décrits servent à prolonger la vie utile d'un élément optique (38) exposé au rayonnement intense d'un faisceau laser (37). Selon ce procédé, la zone effective d'interaction et le volume du faisceau laser dans l'élément optique sont accrus au moyen d'un déplacement mécanique continu. Dans un mode de réalisation, l'appareil génère harmoniquement un faisceau laser dans un cristal BBO. Un moteur (12) entraîne le cristal BBO monté sur une paire de coulisses de translation. Le cristal se déplace sur une voie circulaire en spirale à l'intérieur d'une zone prédéterminée pendant que son axe optique reste orienté dans la même direction par rapport à un faisceau laser. L'angle d'accord de phase du cristal BBO est maintenu pendant le déplacement et la vie utile du cristal BBO est prolongée de plusieurs ordres de grandeur.
