Abstract
(EN) A reproducing element for use in a high density coupled element read head, and a method for manufacturing such an element are provided. The reproducing element includes an insulative layer (14) and a magnetoresistive layer (16) in contact with the insulative layer (14). The reproducing element also includes a support layer (24) in contact with the magnetoresistive layer (16), the support layer (24) having a hardness sufficient to substantially prevent damage to the magnetoresistive layer (16) during mechanical processing and during movement of a tape across a surface of the reproducing element.
(FR) Cette invention se rapporte à un élément de lecture destiné à une tête de lecture haute densité à élément couplé, ainsi qu'à un procédé de fabrication d'un tel élément de lecture. Ce dernier comporte une couche isolante (14) et une couche magnéto-résistante (16) en contact avec ladite couche isolante (14), ainsi qu'une couche support (24) en contact avec ladite couche magnéto-résistante (16). Ladite couche support (24) possède une dureté suffisante pour empêcher sensiblement tout dégât à la couche magnéto-résistante (16) au cours du processus mécanique et au cours du déplacement de la bande sur une surface de l'élément de lecture.
