Title: DEVICE FOR DETECTING EURPTIONS OF SOLAR CORONAL MATTER
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for detecting eruptions of solar coronal matter, comprising a solar radiation detector unit (8) which can be directed towards the sun. Said device also contains a plasma cloud detector unit (9) enabling a solid angle area around the alignment of the solar radiation detector unit (8) to be determined. The plasma cloud detector unit (9) is used to detect plasma clouds moving away from the sun (6) as a result of eruptions of solar coronal matter. A central unit (17) is also provided to enable the plasma cloud detector unit (9) to be aligned in such a way that it can follow the trajectory of one or each plasma cloud when at least one plasma cloud has been detected. An advance warning procedure can be triggered when a collision probability value of one or each plasma cloud is exceeded. The device is placed in an appropriate manner on at least one satellite orbiting around the earth. Said device enables plasma clouds to be detected before they can exert a damaging influence on satellites in orbit around the earth or on radiation-sensitive systems stationed on earth.
