Title (EN) A FINGER EXERCISE AND REHABILITATION DEVICE
(FR) APPAREIL DE MUSCULATION ET DE REEDUCATION POUR LES DOIGTS
Abstract:
(EN) An apparatus for the therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation of injured fingers is comprised of a backboard (2) upon which the dorsal side of the patient's hand is rested, a strap (30) to secure the hand to the backboard that provides necessary leverage for exercises, and an immobilization bar (14) which is used to selectively anchor the metacarpus, the proximal phalanges, the middle phalanges to the backboard thereby isolating the metacarpophalangeal, the proximal interphalangeal, the distal interphalangeal joints, respectively, their corresponding muscles for therapeutic isotonic, and isometric exercise. The immobilization bar is curved to conform to the natural alignment of the joints and may contain digit separation means (36) to separate the phalanges during exercise.
