Abstract:
(EN) The invention relates to an improved valve of the double block and bleed type construction wherein a pair of independently and externally actuable ball valves are provided as a contigency measure within the valve to prevent catastrophic valve failure. The valve is comprised of a first valve assembly housing the first ball valve, and a second valve assembly housing the second ball valve, each said ball valve being held within the particular valve assembly by an annular retainer component. Each valve assembly has a passage through which fluid can pass when the ball valve is in an open condition, and also a mating surface which is brought to bear against the mating surface of the alternate valve assembly to form a valve with a single joint. A single joint double block and bleed valve can only be compromised around that single joint, and therefore the valve configuration according to the invention is the safest achievable without removing the inherent facility for simple ball valve or assembly replacement.
(FR) Cette invention a trait à une vanne améliorée, du type à double bloc et purgeur, dans laquelle deux vannes à boulet actionnables de l'extérieur et de manière indépendante constituent une mesure de prévoyance destinée à éviter une panne de la vanne aux conséquences catastrophiques. Cette vanne est constituée d'un premier ensemble de vanne logeant la première vanne à boulet et d'un second ensemble logeant la seconde vanne à boulet, chacune desdites vannes à boulet étant maintenue dans son ensemble propre par un organe de maintien annulaire. Dans chaque ensemble de vanne est ménagé un passage laissant passer un fluide lorsque la vanne à boulet est en position ouverte. Chaque ensemble possède également une surface de contact amenée à porter sur la surface de contact de l'autre ensemble de vanne et ce, afin de constituer une vanne à joint unique. Le joint unique pourrait constituer le seul point faible d'une vanne à double bloc et du type purgeur à joint unique et, de ce fait, la configuration de vanne de l'invention est la plus sûre qui se puisse réaliser et ce, sans renoncer à la facilité inhérente d'un remplacement d'une simple vanne à boulet ou d'ensemble de vanne.
