Abstract:
(EN) This invention relates to a new method for making a photodurable, aqueous titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment slurry. The method involves mixing amorphous alumina, TiO2 pigment particles, water, and at least one dispersant to form the slurry. The initial slurry comprises at least about 78 wt.% TiO2 solids and at least about 3 wt.% alumina. The resulting slurry may be diluted to a lower TiO2 solids content and subsequently screened and media-milled. The titanium dioxide pigment slurry is suitable for use in coatings formulations such as paints.
(FR) L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé de fabrication pour supension aqueuse photostable de pigments de dioxyde de titane (TiO2), qui consiste à mélanger de l'alumine amorphe, des particules pigmentaires de TiO2, de l'eau et au moins un dispersant en vue de constituer la suspension. La suspension initiale comprend, en poids, au moins 78 % environ de matières solides de TiO2 et au moins 3 % environ d'alumine. La suspension finale peut être diluée jusqu'à obtention d'une teneur inférieure en solides de TiO2, puis filtrée et soumise au broyage par matières abrasives. Ladite suspension aqueuse se prête à une utilisation dans les formulations pour revêtement du type peinture.
