Abstract:
(EN) A catheter (14) for use in an electro-physiological procedure to ablate a site includes a metallic tip (30) having a first work function and energized by a source of RF energy. The RF energy return path is through a relatively large plate (34) of a metallic material having a second work function and disposed at a second location removed from the ablation site. The difference in work functions of the tip and the plate, operating in the presence of an electrolyte represented by intermediate tissue, produces an exchange of electrical charges through chemical reaction to create a galvanic cell. By loading the galvanic cell with a shunt resistor, it becomes a current source providing a current signal having a peak value representative of occurence of tissue damage. This representation is used to regulate the RF energy applied to the ablation site.
(FR) L'invention a pour objet un cathéter (20) destiné à une intervention électrophysiologique servant à l'ablation d'un site. L'appareil comprend une pointe métallique (30) ayant une première fonction de travail et alimentée par une source d'énergie RF. Le trajet de retour de l'énergie RF passe par une plaque (34) de taille relativement importante, constituée d'un matériau métallique, possédant une deuxième fonction de travail et disposée dans un deuxième endroit, distant du site d'ablation. La différence des fonctions de travail de la pointe et de la plaque, qui fonctionnent en présence d'un électrolyte représenté par un tissu intermédiaire, produit un échange de charges électriques à travers une réaction chimique pour créer une cellule galvanique. En chargeant la cellule galvanique avec un shunt, on obtient une source de courant qui fournit un signal de courant possédant une valeur de crête indiquant une lésion du tissu. On utilise cette indication pour réguler l'énergie RF appliquée au site d'ablation.
