Abstract:
(EN) A method of and apparatus for tracking propagation delay between a base station and a subscriber unit is described. The method and apparatus may be used in performing an efficient soft handoff in a cellular telephone system. In one embodiment a round trip delay between a base station (32a, 32b) and a subscriber unit (30) is tracked. Changes in the round trip delay at the base station (32a, 32b) are monitored, and updates sent to a base station controller (36) when the delay changes by more than a predetermined amount. Using round trip delay from a first base station and a pilot PN code phase for a pilot received from a second base station, an estimated arrival state of a reverse link signal from the subscriber unit (30) to the second base station is calculated. The estimated arrival state aids acquisition of the reverse link signal by the second base station.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de surveiller les délais de propagation entre une station de base et un poste d'abonné. Ce procédé et dispositif conviennent à l'exécution d'un transfert en douceur satisfaisant dans un système de téléphone cellulaire. Pour l'une des réalisations, c'est le délai d'aller et retour entre une station de base (32a, 32b) et un poste d'abonné (30) que l'on surveille. On surveille en l'occurrence les évolutions des délais d'aller et retour au niveau de la station de base (32a, 32b), des mises à jour étant envoyées au contrôleur de station de base (36) lorsque les changements de délais dépassent un plafond défini. En utilisant les délais d'aller retour à partir d'une première station de base, et la phase de code PN du pilote pour un pilote reçu en provenance d'une autre station de base, on arrive à calculer l'état d'arrivé estimé d'un signal de liaison inverse en provenance du poste d'abonné (30) et destiné à l'autre station de base. L'état d'arrivée estimé facilite d'acquisition du signal de liaison inverse par l'autre station de base.
