Abstract:
(EN) A plasma display having a transparent front panel (622) spaced from a back panel (610) which is a metal core (612) having layers of a dielectric material (614) extending over and bonded to the core. Conductive electrodes (620) are on the surface of or embedded in the dielectric layer of the back panel. The materials of which the back panel is made are chosen to form a back panel having a thermal coefficient of expansion (TCE) compatible with that of the front panel. The dielectric material is made from a green ceramic tape which is bonded to the core and cofired with the core to form the back panel. Barrier ribs (616) are formed on the back panel by embossing or scribing the green tape before cofiring the bonded assembly. Slight differences in the TCEs of the front and back panels may be compensated for by heating the panel having the lower TCE to a temperature hotter than the panel having the higher TCE during the frit seal process. Alternatively, the materials for the dieletric (614) may be chosen such that the composite TCE of the cofired assembly (610) matches the TCE of the front panel.
(FR) L'invention porte sur un écran à plasma comportant un panneau avant transparent (622) espacé d'un panneau arrière (610) dont l'âme métallique (612) renferme des couches de matériau diélectrique (614) qui s'étendent sur l'âme et sont liées à celle-ci. Des électrodes conductrices (620) sont ménagées sur la surface ou sont encastrées dans la couche diélectrique du panneau arrière. Les matériaux dont est fait le panneau arrière sont sélectionnés de façon à former un panneau arrière à coefficient de dilatation thermique (TCE) compatible avec celui du panneau avant. Le matériau diélectrique est constitué d'une bande céramique verte qui est liée à l'âme et obtenue par cocuisson avec l'âme de façon à former le panneau arrière. Des nervures (616) barrières sont formées sur le panneau arrière par bossage ou rainurage de la bande verte avant de procéder à la cocuisson de l'ensemble lié. De légères différences dans les coefficients thermiques des panneaux avant et arrière peuvent être compensées par chauffage du panneau possédant le plus faible coefficient thermique à une température supérieure à celle du panneau ayant le coefficient thermique le plus élevé au cours du procédé de soudage à la fritte. Selon une autre version, les matériaux du diélectrique (614) peuvent être sélectionnés de sorte que le coefficient de dilatation thermique composite de l'ensemble (610) obtenu par cocuisson corresponde au coefficient thermique du panneau avant.
