Abstract:
(EN) A data storage disk cartridge (10) having a dual housing structure includes an inner housing (14) that contains a disk (12), and an outer housing (16) that contains the inner housing. The inner housing (14) is at least partially removable from the outer housing (16) for insertion into a disk drive. The outer housing (16) remains external to the disk drive, however, except for a portion (24) that is inserted into the drive to provide a docking channel for retraction of the inner housing. A shutter (18) on the inner housing covers a portion of the disk, but is manipulable by the disk drive to uncover the disk and allow drive access. The dual housing structure of the cartridge is capable of significantly improving disk and drive reliability, particularly for recording applications that require higher areal recording densities, such as near field optical recording. In particular, the disk cartridge reduces the accumulation of debris on the disk and drive components. The dual-housing disk cartridge provides a system of partially redundant barriers that significantly reduce the possibility of debris accumulation. The barriers form a hierarchy of cleanliness that stands between the outside environment and the disk and drive components. Consequently, in a preferred mode, the disk is never exposed to the outside environment. The reduced amounts of debris contribute to more consistent optical and mechanical performance of the disk and drive, and thereby enhance data storage reliability.
(FR) Un boîtier (10) pour disque de stockage de données comprend une structure de rangement double, constituée d'un support interne (14) contenant un disque (12) et d'un élément externe (16) contenant le support interne. Ce dernier (14) est au moins partiellement amovible pour sortir de l'élément externe (16) et être introduit dans un lecteur de disques. L'élément externe (16) reste extérieur au lecteur de disques, à l'exception cependant d'une partie (24) qui est introduite dans le lecteur pour constituer une zone de retrait permettant de retirer l'élément externe. Un obturateur (18) prévu sur le support interne couvre une partie du disque, il peut cependant être manipulé par le lecteur de disques pour découvrir le disque et lui permettre d'entrer dans le lecteur. D'une manière plus spécifique, le boîtier de disque réduit l'accumulation de débris sur le disque et les éléments du lecteur. Le boîtier de disque à structure double définit un système de barrières partiellement redondantes qui réduisent de manière significative la possibilité que des débris s'accumulent. Les barrières forment une échelle de propreté qui se situe entre l'environnement extérieur et le disque ainsi que les éléments du lecteur. Par conséquent dans un mode préféré, le disque n'est jamais exposé à l'environnement extérieur. Les quantités réduites de débris contribuent à améliorer les performances d'ordre optique et mécanique du disque et du lecteur, ceci augmentant par conséquent la fiabilité du stockage des données.
