Abstract:
(EN) Disclosed is a dispersion managed optical waveguide fiber. The power loss due to four wave mixing is kept low by making the waveguide from sub-lengths of fiber which have non-zero dispersion. The sign of the total dispersion of the sub-lengths is made to alternate along the length of the waveguide, thereby allowing the total dispersion of the waveguide to be managed to a pre-selected target value. It has been discovered that the best performance is obtained when the zero dispersion wavelengths of the sub-lengths are widely and asymmetrically separated. Advantages are realized when the core refractive index profil is changed for sub-lengths having total dispersion of different sign.
(FR) L'invention concerne une fibre optique guide d'ondes à dispersion modulée. La perte de puissance due au mélange à quatre ondes est maintenue à un faible niveau du fait que le guide d'ondes est fabriqué à partir de longueurs de fibre à dispersion non nulle. On fait alterner le signe de la dispersion totale des sous-longueurs, sur la longueur du guide d'ondes, ce qui permet la modulation de la dispersion totale du guide d'ondes de sorte qu'une valeur cible sélectionnée soit obtenue. On a découvert que l'on obtient les meilleurs résultats lorsque les guides d'ondes à dispersion nulle des sous-longueurs sont séparés par des grandes distances et de manière asymétrique. Il est avantageux de modifier le profil d'indice de réfraction central pour des sous-longueurs ayant une dispersion totale à signe différent.
