Abstract:
(EN) A method of forming solid rivets to improve the rivets' resistance to fatigue and stress corrosion cracking. The present invention comprises a method of forming solid rivets to improve the rivets' resistance to fatigue and stress corrosion cracking. In accordance with the method, a rivet blank (38) approximately the same diameter as the head of the finished rivet is used. This rivet blank (28) is forced into a die (36) to extrude the tapered region (40) and the shank (42) of the finished rivet. The fabrication process provides more uniform cold working at the junction of the shank (42) and the tapered region (40) of the rivet, and better orients the flow lines in this region. Alternate embodiments are disclosed.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un procédé de formation de rivets solides permettant d'améliorer la résistance des rivets à la fatigue et à la fissuration par corrosion sous contrainte. Selon ledit procédé, on utilise une ébauche (38) de rivet possédant environ le même diamètre que la tête du rivet fini. On introduit cette ébauche (38) de rivet dans une matrice (36) afin d'extruder la partie conique (40) et la tige (42) du rivet fini. Ce procédé de fabrication permet d'obtenir une déformation à froid plus uniforme à l'intersection entre la tige (42) et la partie conique (40) du rivet, et de mieux orienter les lignes d'écoulement dans cette partie. L'invention se rapporte également à d'autres modes de réalisation.
