(EN)Using a novel culture approach, previously unknown populations of neural progenitor cells have been found within an adult mammalian brain. By limiting cell-cell contact, dissociated adult brain yields at least two types of cell aggregates. These aggregates or clones of stem/precursor cells can be generated from adult brain tissue with significantly long postmortem intervals. Both neurons and glia arise from stem/precursor cells of these cultures, and the cells can survive transplantation to the adult mammalian brain.
(FR)La présente invention concerne une nouvelle méthode de culture qui a permis de découvrir, dans un cerveau de mammifère adulte, des populations de cellules souches neurales inconnues jusqu'alors. Lorsque l'on restreint le contact entre cellules, le cerveau adulte dissocié produit au moins deux types d'agrégats cellulaires. Ces agrégats ou clones de cellules souches/précurseurs peuvent se développer à partir du tissu d'un cerveau adulte avec des délais post mortem relativement longs. Les cellules souches/précurseurs de ces cultures produisent à la fois des neurones et des cellules gliales, et elles sont capables de survivre à la transplantation sur le cerveau de mammifère adulte.
