Abstract:
A pure charge rotary engine with sequenced variable volume cycling or positive displacement must aspirate differently from conventional reciprocating stroke piston engines. This is because the operational rotor lobes are continuously advancing and so the charge inducted by one lobe face and section must be transferred to another lobe face and section which is either ahead, behind, or adjacent to the inducting section for ignition and expansion or just expansion. This invention includes the principle referred to as complete unit charge variable compression transfer or injection. In addition the invention includes novel embodiments of cam rotor and gate engines, interfaced disc lobe and hub engines, and dual and closed cylinder two-stroke style engines incorporating and based on this principle. Novel methods of fuel addition using the transfer velocity, pressure, and flow inherent in this principle and novel piston and combustion chamber and squish chamber designs enhancing or replicating the effects of the unit charge injection or transfer are included.
