A communications system capable of providing enhanced data integrity and reliability through redundant buses (107R, 107L, 107LB), and a network interface controller for use therewith are disclosed. Redundant conductors (107) conforming to well-known ethernet standards interconnect electronics components. Each component communicates with the conductors (107) through a single network interface card (NIC). Each NIC comprises an ethernet compliant transceiver (101A-C) for each ethernet conductor (107) in communication with the component. Microcontrollers (112) embedded in each NIC synchronously and deterministically place data on the ethernet conductors (107) according to a timing scheme stored in a non-volatile memory (113) means. A heartbit/power monitor (114) is also provided to ensure that data cannot be transmitted in the event of a microcontroller (112) failure. Through the inventive elements presented herein, the communications system provides a high degree of redundancy and fault-tolerance and is therefore well-suited to critical applications in avionics communication.

On décrit un système de communications permettant d'accroître, au moyen de bus redondants (107R, 107L, 107LB), l'intégrité et la fiabilité de données, ainsi qu'un organe de gestion d'interface de réseau, utile avec ce système. Des conducteurs redondants (107), conformes aux standards bien connus d'Ethernet, relient entre eux des composants électroniques. Chaque composant communique avec ces conducteurs (107) au moyen d'une carte d'interface de réseau (NIC). Chaque carte NIC comprend un émetteur-récepteur (101 A-C) conforme aux standards d'Ethernet (107) et destiné à chaque conducteur Ethernet communiquant avec le composant. Des microrégisseurs (112) encastrés dans chaque carte NIC placent de manière synchrone et déterministe des données sur les conducteurs Ethernet (107), selon une chronologie conservée dans une mémoire non volatile (113). Un contrôleur de séquences/dispositif d'interruption d'alimentation (114) sert à empêcher la transmission de données dans le cas d'une défaillance des microrégisseurs (112). Grâce aux éléments de l'invention décrits ici, ce système de communications offre un niveau élevé de redondance et de tolérance aux fautes et il est donc tout à fait conçu pour des applications critiques de communications avioniques.
