A method for molding short fiber/rubber composite articles having enhanced mechanical properties by aligning short reinforcing fibers during an injection molding process. The method comprises injecting a molding mixture through an injection gate arranged in a predetermined relationship to the molding cavity. The injection gate has a relatively small thickness in comparison to the thickness of the molding cavity. The fibers are associated with a first direction, generally parallel to the flow of the molding mixture as the molding mixture moves through the gate. As the molding mixture passes through the gate and into the cavity, the fiber direction is altered as the molding material fills the cavity.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé de moulage d'articles composites à base de caoutchouc et de fibres courtes, dotés de caractéristiques mécaniques perfectionnées, qui consiste à aligner les fibres de renforcement courtes au cours du processus de moulage par injection. Ledit procédé consiste à injecter un mélange de moulage à travers une entrée pour injection agencée de manière préétablie par rapport à la cavité de moulage. Ladite entrée possède une épaisseur relativement faible en comparaison de l'épaisseur de la cavité de moulage. Les fibres sont associées à une première direction, généralement parallèle à l'écoulement du mélange de moulage lorsque celui-ci s'écoule à travers l'entrée. Etant donné que ledit mélange de moulage traverse l'entrée et pénètre dans la cavité, la direction des fibres est modifiée lors du remplissage de la cavité par ladite matière de moulage.
