A method of fractally interpolating intensity values for a color component array derived from a single chip charge-coupled-device (CCD) is disclosed. The method includes selection of a domain area about an array element not having a value for the color component array (50). A plurality of range areas are selected which are larger than the domain area (62). Additional range areas may be generated by range area transformations and intensity value scaling and shifting (56, 60). A difference measurement between each domain area and range area is determined (68) and the range area corresponding to the smallest distance measurement is selected (72). The intensity values of the selected range area are then used to generate an interpolated intensity value for the domain area (74).

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant une interpolation par fractale des valeurs d'intensité pour un groupe de composantes chromatiques fournies par un circuit CCD monopuce. Selon le procédé, une zone domaine entourant un élément du groupe n'ayant pas de valeur pour le groupe de composantes chromatiques (50) est sélectionnée. Une pluralité de zones plages plus grandes que la zone domaine sont sélectionnées (62). Des zones plages supplémentaires peuvent être générées par transformation des zones plages, puis par échelonnage et décalage des valeurs d'intensité (56, 60). Une mesure de différence entre chaque zone domaine et chaque zone plage est déterminée, puis la zone plage correspondant à la plus petite distance est sélectionnée (72). Les valeurs d'intensité de la zone plage sélectionnée sont ensuite utilisées pour générer une valeur d'intensité interpolée destinée à la zone domaine (74).
