Abstract

A transverse pumping system for a laser rod (20) uses symmetrically arranged banks of laser diodes (15) which create overlapping patterns of illumination inside the rod. Cooling (30, 16) is provided by a symmetrically constructed circulation system which directs a turbulent flow of cooling water against the laser rod and against a heat sink (36) for the diode banks. Cooling water for the laser rod (20) flows through a glass tube surrounding the rod. This enables the cooling water to perform an auxiliary function in focussing the illumination generated by the pumping diodes (15).

Un système de pompage transversal destiné à un barreau laser (20) utilise des bancs de diodes laser (15) disposés symétriquement qui créent des diagrammes d'éclairement à recouvrement à l'intérieur dudit barreau. Le refroidissement (30, 16) est assuré par un système à circulation de construction symétrique qui dirige un flux turbulent d'eau de refroidissement contre le barreau laser et contre un dissipateur de chaleur (36) associé aux bancs de diodes. L'eau de refroidissement destiné au barreau laser (20) circule dans un tube en verre entourant le barreau. Ceci permet à l'eau de refroidissement d'exécuter une fonction auxiliaire consistant à focaliser l'éclairement lumineux produit par les diodes de pompage (15).
