A process is provided for the production of paraxylene by the methylation of toluene in the presence of a zeolite bound zeolite catalyst. The catalyst comprises first zeolite crystals which are bound together by second zeolite crystals. When used to methylate toluene to para-xylene, the zeolite bound zeolite catalyst has a para-xylene selectivity greater than thermodynamic equilibrium. This selectivity can be enhanced by selectivating the catalyst.

Procédé de production de paraxylène par méthylation de toluène en présence d'un catalyseur zéolite lié à une zéolite. Le catalyseur comprend des cristaux d'une première zéolite qui sont liés ensemble par des cristaux d'une seconde zéolite. Lorsqu'on l'utilise pour méthyler le toluène en paraxylène, le catalyseur zéolite lié à une zéolite possède une sélectivité de paraxylène supérieure à l'équilibre thermodynamique. Cette sélectivité peut être améliorée par sélectivation du catalyseur.
